Cross-posting to CommonMap.org and to Koordinates.com since the source data is definatly usefull to these collections. I'm requesting a new data source be created for Finland data, and anyone is welcome to be the data custodian for it. cheers, Sam On 5/8/12, Pekka Sarkola wrote: > Dear Friends, > > > > As I mentioned in my post in last December: National Land Survey of Finland > (later on: NLSF) has open all their topographic datasets on 1st of May. > > >

The idea is that the data becomes available as-is, so it's in a common format for everyone to use. Everyone - meaning different levels of government and private enterprise and any uses. It'll also get added to koordinate.com as it's a bit easier to grab the data from 1 location than trying to find it through the maze of government websites. I just need to find a database willing to support such anarchy :o) On 5/5/12, Paul Norman wrote:
FYI, This stuff would need to be added to CommonMap. Probably a wipe & replace for the whole dataset. This is why i also propose creating a openimportsmap which is a 'data recycling cetre' which organizes all data that is available. And just 'bulk implops' it, so then it can be used by whoever needs it. cheers, sam ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Paul Norman Date: Sat, 05 May 2012 19:19:36 -0700 Subject: [Imports] NHD data changes To: OpenStreetMap US Talk

The simple answer is that the best help we can do, is go out their and be of help to everyone. There is no sence in re-doing what has been done, we just collect what government data is already available, and work from it. By showing where errors are, and helping the data suppliers (of all sources) make their own maps better. I think that's the best we can do.
